SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

  An Idle Day

11 February 2000

5:30 PM: I'm glad to see that it's not just the people that get turned into wimps by the weather in San Francisco. We've been suffering all day through the privations of actual rain, if you can imagine the horror. So of course the power went out here at work. I can't blame it, poor thing. Water falling from the sky? Whoever heard of such a thing?

For most everyone else, this was definitely Not A Problem. Gosh, power's out at 4 PM on a Friday, what shall I do? Oh yes, leave, that's right. You'd have thought we'd lost pressure with the rush of bodies to the doors. Me, though, I'd only gotten in maybe an hour before, so somewhat obligated to stick around for a bit. Worked out quite nicely as it happened. Burger Island had power (and McDookie's didn't ha ha ha), so a bacon-cheese mushroom burger and coffee shake, while reading today's Times by skylight, not even having to vaguely pretend to work. Soon as I finish and go wash up and floss, pooum! here's the power back.

And here I am, too, uh, working...

11:09:

I am the only one here.

I like it.

Someday soon I will be interesting again.

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
