3:40 PM: You might have heard, we have these X Games going on in San Francisco this weekend. Don't confuse this with the GLBT Pride Parade, which would be easy to do, and which is also not about a sandwich either. These X Games are a weekend sporting/TV event where a lot of young people try very vigorously to kill themselves with wheeled objects of varying natures, a project I heartily support.
I only brought this all up to mention the sign I saw on my way in to work today. The train line goes past one of the main loci of activity, and about 8 blocks away, nearer the train station, there's a big sign up: X-GAMES PARKING & SHUTTLE. "Shuttle"?? We have to have a van carry us down the 10-minute length of gorgeous Embarcadero bayside walkway so we can go be vicariously extreeeme, dude! We have burst through the irony barrier here and reached mere patheticness, I think.
Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the
author is definitely
unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
