SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

  Underutilization

5 March 1999

7:54 PM: Hmm. I'm done again. I haven't even been here 4 hours yet, though. Bad. New woman at meeting yesterday turns out to be visiting from StepDadCo and bound back to East Coast soon. Dang. Was nice to see a not-young'n who was also a not-suit and not-marketeer. I know I know, like it could possibly matter in the real world. But hey. I need to think of something to do now. Maybe I'll go get some food.

9:50: Well, that kinda worked. But then, it was only kinda food.

It's nice to be appreciated:

"Not to have watched the interview seems almost un-American, like not owning a TV in the first place. People who didn't watch it probably own Volvos and claim they only listen to NPR. Or else they have standards."
- Rob Morse, SF Examiner
I like the part about being un-American, but that Volvo crack's just a cheap shot. I saw a Volvo on the way to work today, with this totally hip low-art Labelmaker-look window sticker: I AM AN ANARCHIST. Uh huh. Other selections include: And so yeah, OK, I did own a Volvo back when I had a car, so what's your point?

It's probably a very good thing that my computer at home sucks as much as it does. I'm noodling around in other people's work and trying to find websites worth reading and, oh, there are some scripts running over there and some animations running over there, and it occurs to me that if I had this decent a monitor, processor, and connection at home - where I could not only program but smoke - I'd really never leave the house.

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
