SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

7:25 PM: The worst part about reading about people who are quitting smoking is that it makes me want to have a cigarette, and that's usually something I don't think about during the day. But once I do, it's pink elephant1 time. Aargh. And of course this would be a day where I didn't get any donuts out of misguided virtue.

On the other hand, Snack! was Eskimo Pies, and that makes up for a lot.

You know that isn't at all what I started out to want to talk about, but damn it now if I don't have the faintest clue of what was.

8:47: Quack.

High horses, get off em, all of youse. I see that the editor of Maxim is taking over at Details now. My Prediction: More breasts. I'm not afraid to take a stand. Take the stand, sure, but who wouldn't be, these days?

I was talking to someone I've known for a while now, who works at a company that we do business with, about some possible trademark violations:

She: "Well sure, but they wouldn't do anything that would violate the contract."

Me: "I don't know. Have you seen the news lately? All these guys are breaking the Constitution left and right, and nobody seems to worry too much about that. I don't think a piece of paper is going to stop anybody from doing whatever they think they can get away with."

She: "But this is a legal contract between two companies. That's a little more serious than the Constitution."

Me: " ..... "

So when you're going over your 401k fund allocations, and your mortgages, and your five-year agrarian plans, just remember: right now we are twelve old white guys away from a coup. Tomorrow? Next year? Ten years? You never know.

Speaking of which, I found a page about emigrating to New Zealand the other day. Looks a bit more straightforward than Australia. But unless you're planning on investing a pretty big chunk of capital, you have to qualify under the "General" category according to this system of points. And I'm about to lose 2 points in 3 months, because 40-year-olds are worth less than 39-year-olds. Jerks. You can't even apply at all if you're 56 or older. What's really odd is that being 18-24 is worth less than being 25-29. I'd like to know by what criteria. Do they want a country with good taste, or a country that tastes good?

1As in, "Don't think about a pink elephant."

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
