Apparently not. Apparently that will never happen. Even when yesterday it was disturbing & worrying; not once did I attribute it to terrorism. It just wasn't. The media, however, could've had masses of egg on their collective faces. I awoke Monday to see British press with headlines such as 'Taliban Wilt', 'Winning The War' and those same people were the ones reacting with the most fear at 2.15 yesterday. Ironically enough, the programme that should have been on (for me) was diagnosis murder. My verdict. Diagnosis: Not murder. Calm down. Living on the edge like that will ruin you.

Yeah, but c'mon man, freaky coincidence, hard not to shit one's pants. We can't even imagine how the Yankies must feel these days. (cue Tommie reply...)

Living on the edge will ruin you? After all of your talk about your bev binges, PI escapades and that gas incident that sounded like a terrorist attack! :)

Yes, I feared a little as soon as I heard, but as soon as any major fact came through (i.e. that an engine fell off) I mentally ruled out the threat. I might be wrong, I doubt it, but it could happen. One should never jump to conclusions. Just because it looks like a spade; on closer examination it might not feel or smell like a spade. It's not a spade. Apply this to yesterday's events. It looked like a spade, but when it came to light about it's non-spadeness, it was clear to all that it wasn't a spade. Except the media, who were (and I regret the callousness in this statement) prepared to milk it for all it was worth. I refer you to my original point about Media War.

(btw, the "no name" above was me responding to Kid). The one thing I will add is that these events, so horrible to us, are not so unlike those regularly experienced by many in other parts of the world.

That said, it makes them no less horrible.

"On should never jump to conclusions," he says, jumpring to the conclusion himself that this was an accident: "as soon as any major fact came through (i.e. that an engine fell off) I mentally ruled out the threat". I think we should keep an open mind! We just don't know!

One maybe should keep an open mind, but to go round scaremongering would be inappropriate and indeed ill-advised. I didn't jump to the conclusion that it was an accident - I suspected, and as information came through that backed up my theory I became more confident about it.

OK, so you didnt jump to conclusions, but really, how many of us initially though: Here we go again. And while we're on the subject (the two of which you apparently link, Kid), what exactly does a spade smell of? I would like to know for future in-the-shed-at-night-looking-for-digging-utensils incidents.

Of course, the first thing that goes through your mind when you see a news flash saying another plane has crashed in New York is 'Here We Go Again'; but when you see some fact - it crashed in Queens; very unlikely a terrorist would do that; an engine fell off; very difficult to manufacture and it begins to form the opinion. Of course, it could have been a terrorist attack, but very quickly I, and my news viewing colleagues next door ruled it out.

It was surely difficult to rule out the possibility of a bomb on board, though, until real investigation had taken place. And anyway, heres a though. Even if the authorities found out it WAS a terrorist attack, do you they would tell us, or would they cover it up by saying it was an accident, for many obvious advantages for themselves? Think about that one, spade-smeller!
