SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

  S.O.S.

3 December 2000

3:21 AM: I must say, it's gotten deucedly difficult to listen to ABBA songs with any kind of dignity the last couple of days. (This is on a relative scale, of course.)

4:18 PM: Mid-Weekend Media Report: Well sir, I did it. Yep, no bag on my head or fake mustache or nothin, walked right up to that counter and put down a copy of The Bear and The Dragon and said, "Yes I would like to purchase this TOM CLANCY BOOK, please!" And walked out with my head held high. Which hurt a lot. Who put that tree branch down so low like that, anyway? Not safe.

Anyways, though, I haven't read it yet, because that new John Barnes book that I've been looking for in the hardcover section turned out to have been in paperback all along. Candle - weird reading it, because it's like the backstory to Kaleidoscope Century (and Orbital Resonance too, it turns out - the SF Book Club is even selling them as a 3-in-1 deal). I liked it well enough, I suppose. Just kept waiting for the two boys to fall into each others' arms to celebrate their new-found love, sheesh.

Hmm. Book club. I'm going to need to do a lot of reading. Might be worth thinking about...

And of course, there's the big Trial in Tallahassee going on. Doesn't look too good for Gore. Never know, though. Ah, damn though, Bush is going to be President and there's going to be a recession, which I guess means this is a bad time to try to go freelancing. On top of everything else. Well, as someone said to me recently, I have my worries, you have yours. Doodie.

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
