  Leg Up, Strike Out

17 November 2000

10:16 PM: Hey neat! I have an actual disease! It's called DSPS, for Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. Pretty much, it's people who can't go to sleep, and then can't wake up. "It is thought that DSPS is caused by an insufficient ability to reset the sleep/wake cycle in response to environmental time cues - perhaps the biological clocks of DSP individuals have an unusually long cycle, or perhaps they are not sensitive enough to time cues." I'm going with the latter, I'm not sensitive to any kind of cues, pretty much. Except pool cues.

Life just continues on its merry fucking way all around me. Every part of it that bugs me, I'm terrified of losing. Cling & Scorn, sounds like some kind of psychoactive laundry product. I need books. I should go get some.

I don't know what I was thinking anyway. Except that I sort of do. It's just like smoking. I know this is going to come out badly in the end. And it's not all that great now, a lot of the time. But sometimes it's very nice, and in any case I need it. So Blind Eye to the future and away!

I should print this out on a card and keep my money wrapped in it or something so I'd look at it all the time:

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
