SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

30 June 2000

11:00 PM: Note to Self - driving is not faster than BART across the Bay Bridge at 6:15 PM on a Thursday. It is also not faster than a locomotive. In fact, it is not faster than your favorite domestic animal.

So, plans changed, and we went to see Gladiator instead. I liked OK. Too much advance knowledge - yes, I liked the battle scene at the beginning, but even watching it I was thinking, "Ah, yes, and here are the flaming arrows mentioned in that New Yorker review." Contaminated mind. Russell Crowe is good as he always seems to be. Joaquin Phoenix looks nothing like the other Phoenixes, assuming he really is related to them. He's very whiny. Young Penny said she felt sorry for him, which I guess I can understand in an abstract way, but which still disturbed me. No, class, we do not feel sorry for the corrupt Roman emperor. Please turn your workbooks to page 23...

Uh oh. Someone is trying to break in through the roof of the building. Either that or there are fireworks going off at the ballpark. God help me, I'll never get home if that's the case...

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
