11:00 PM: Note to Self - driving is not faster than BART across the Bay Bridge at 6:15 PM on a Thursday. It is also not faster than a locomotive. In fact, it is not faster than your favorite domestic animal.
So, plans changed, and we went to see Gladiator instead. I liked OK. Too much advance knowledge - yes, I liked the battle scene at the beginning, but even watching it I was thinking, "Ah, yes, and here are the flaming arrows mentioned in that New Yorker review." Contaminated mind. Russell Crowe is good as he always seems to be. Joaquin Phoenix looks nothing like the other Phoenixes, assuming he really is related to them. He's very whiny. Young Penny said she felt sorry for him, which I guess I can understand in an abstract way, but which still disturbed me. No, class, we do not feel sorry for the corrupt Roman emperor.
