SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

  Trend or Theme?

24 February 2000

7:47 PM: Sheesh. Hair Color Guy got sick and didn't go to work today. For this I got up at 10 AM after going to sleep around 6? Fooey. I rescheduled, but I dunno, I might just do it myself after all. It's Inertia versus Impatience in a titanic struggle, ladies and gentlemen.

Freezing Season seems to be with us again here at mork. Maybe they're just trying to acclimate us to the temperature outside, so we won't be shocked when we leave. You think? Br. And Cheetos don't exactly work for the calorie-intake method of warming up.

Cheetos, you ask? What about one of those scrumptious MRBs? Brunch is what about them. I didn't get my hair done, the least I could do was go eat some food. Which turned out to be Dennys for reasons that weren't quite clear at the time and haven't gotten any less opaque since. A wrong turn. Steak and eggs, it was okay, got to read the paper, I don't ask for much. But I'm not going to eat a meal replacement bar on a day when I've just had an actual meal. It'd be wasteful.

Do websites have some kind of equivalent to Sweeps Week? Check out these photos from the current edition of Slate, an online "news" magazine:

(Haha, this is of course the classic Time/Newsweek strategy of boosting sales - big photos of naked people from a movie or something, with a caption saying, "Look at the terrible things they're doing these days! Are there no standards anymore?")

Slightly meta note (like anything here isn't meta): I would like to apologize for the sporadically broken website that has been Potatoe.Com in February. Moving pains. Now that we're firmly ensconced, though, I promise to bring you a new and vastly improved technological wonder of a website, including free peanuts for everyone!

OK I might be lying in there somewhere.

9:16: Oh my God. Ofra Haza is dead, of "massive organ failure" (!!), at 42. 42. Organ failure - is that like "heart failure"?? "Yeah, his heart failed when it got shot." (If you're saying "Who?", Ofra Haza was a Yemenite folk singer from Israel who had a big hit with a dance mix of the song "Galbi" back in the waning years of the last century. You've probably heard it.)

42. Ulp.

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
