8:46 PM: You might remember the rumor from my birthday party that the bar we were in had originally been a water bar. Whatever that might be. Seems that it's all true - a kind reader wrote in with details:
An elongated table with about a dozen barstools split the bar in half. The original half which catered to many local junkies back when the bar first opened contains the kegs full of mother's milk. The other half, however, contains the next important thing; POTTIES. The potties side was indeed called the "Water Bar", before the wall that separated the two premises was taken down rather violently by the previous owner. The wall came down shortly after the 1989 Earthquake. Water Bar was short lived. It was a place where you could extravagantly spend 3 to 5 bucks for a bottled mineral water, sit on a cushion on the floor, watch Koyaanisqatsi on a big screen TV, listen to Philip Glass, and PRETEND to meditate in an all white decor. However, the thumping beat of Front 242, Test Dept, and the occasional shrieking of Lydia Lunch and Sonic Youth blaring on the other side of the wall permeated through the atmosphere, denying everything what the Water Bar stood for. Water Bar could never gain a moment of peace and quiet, because of the DJ's and patrons next door. Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass might have been very disappointed, but Water Bar had to close its door. And nobody cared.
You can still get mineral water from O'Looney's.
Another example of what drugs will do to you, kids.
Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the
author is definitely
unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
