Potatoes by Amelia on 1999-11-15 22:40:21
Let's try a more benign topic that everyone can join in.
I choose Potatoes!
I like 'em mashed with lots of butter and roasted garlic.
What's your favorite kind?

I really like thinly sliced potatoes that are a bit crispy, and have butter with them. But my real vice is coffee. There isn't enough space to talk about it. |

Wow, thank goodness, as you said, Kid, a real topic, but Amelia, how did you get the cool font on the topic title? Anyway, if ya hadnt guessed, my fave potatoe is potato skins, filled with cheese and onion stuff. Never had em, but served them, and they look sooo nice. My cousin owns a restaurant in Washington, and i used to work there when i was a kid. Man, free food from her place, and boy was it nice? Yummmee

New (red) potatoes are good... especially boiled with crawfish and lotsa spices. Actually, my favorite starch is grits. Yummy. They're very versatile, good with so many foods. I like to think of them as Southern tofu. |

The best potatoes are baked enough so that they are THOROUGHLY COOKED inside, without their skins getting crispy or burnt. Then you cut the potatoe in half, scoop out his guts, and then dump him and go off with another guy. Oh whoops, sorry, wrong recipe. You scoopy out the guts and mash them up on your plate with a fork, using tons of butter. Meanwhile you're melting more tons of butter in the now-empty skins, which have just barely some potatoe left on their insides. You can add salt, but that's it. No fancy stuffing ingredients. Eat eat eat, yum. |

Just finished cooking the Thanksgiving potatoes:
Microwave thinly sliced white rose potatoes to get a head start, then sautee them in tasty bacon fat. Layer in a buttered casserole dish with garlic-flavored sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and sprinklings of crumbled bacon and chopped scallions. It looks so all-American. I feel like Betty Crocker! |
Aha! This topic did exist. After literally minutes of ceaseless searching by Kid. on 2001-04-06 16:36:43 | Reply to this | |
After much embarassment reading my old comments (man, was I the agressive fool!) I came to this. I was looking for it. Erm, I'd like to say white potatoes thinly sliced, crispy on the outside, but still with the white of the potatoe soft inside, in a lightly spiced coating (that which is crispy) are my favourite. Erm, or cold roast potatoes from the day after a big meal, provided they're very cold and crunchy round the outside. Mmmmmm...and apologies for my old self. |

I think it’s a shame personally. Why all the richtatoes go jet boating at the summer cottage, and going to fancy schools like Yale and Harvard... all the potatoes have to live out of a burlap bag and mutate extra eyes. Outcasts, until they’re diced up into wavy lines and served with some kids chicken nuggets. The shame of you all... supporting this... this... madness...
I like them Greek potatoes... with the lemon... and the butter.
