parent: No Ovaltine please!
Re: No Ovaltine please! by Nipper on 2003-11-07 15:46:04
I grew up during the 1930's. I remember the taste combination of Ritz crackers, peanut butter, and hot Ovaltine. The Ovaltine in those days consisted of large, ragged-looking, rich dark brown, crystals. The taste was delicious. I bought a jar recently and found that it was a light tan powder, and when I mixed it with hot milk it tasted like crap. Whoever made the decision to "improve" it should be fired.

Yes, I also can remember those large, ragged-looking, rich dark brown, crystals. When I was a little kid in the early 60's, I spent an occassional night at my grandma's house. She would always give me a glass of hot Ovaltine before bedtime, I always looked forward to it. I agree with you that the stuff they make now just isn't the same. I would settle for an old empty brown glass jar, but I can't even find one on eBay, must be quite rare! |
