The Music Industry by Fractured Reality on 2003-05-21 09:39:58
I would like to hear peoples opinion on where you think the future of the music industry is heading? I belive that music pirating will lead to a huge downfall in the corporation, then we will truly see which bands are making music for the music, and which bands are making music for the money any opinions will be appreciated

You do realise bands have to make money - the bigger the band, the more they reap into the company, so then the company can fund more spectacular (but less popular) acts. I'm a big buyer of independent music don't get me wrong, and I do disagree with members of boardrooms taking bigger and bigger cuts of the moneys coming into a company, but I understand that for less successful bands to keep afloat, more successful bands have to stay afloat, too. So whilst I shan't be moaning about the demise of S Club, nor would I moan about the demise of many bands of the Virgin stable. Think on this also, a small band in say, Japan, might be a huge band in Germany, so it makes sense for record labels to have the wide spread of acts...see what I mean. All bands want to make money, you can't go out on tour (certainly not globally) without having a hell of a backing of funds behind you. I'll stick with the Shrimp Boat album that dropped through my door this morning. (I asked for it, like, it would be a bit odd as a random)
