Questions by Wash! on 2003-03-11 15:08:58
Me and a couple of girls are currently in the hunt for a guy to live with us next year. We don't know one, so we've advertised, and got a fair few replies. But how do we chose who is good and bad? Surely some sort of little questionnaire to fill in would give us a good idea - but which questions would you consider important to ask a potential future housemate??? I drafted up one, but a mate thought it was a touch crap. Help me, people!

You need to know critical things regarding lifestyle. Will they be up until all hours every day and disturb you? Are their friends undesirables? Erm...just think of worst-case scenarios, and ask around them? My first question would be; Can you help me dispose of the body bag in the freezer?. If they said "Yes", they'd get the gig. |

I would ask you potential housemate one question, and one question only: Is it safe?.....(clue: Marathon Man.)....(clue within a clue: Film.) |

After being told to tone down my original questionnaire, i just though i'd tell each person a LITTLE bit about us, and then tell him that we have had a lot of applicants, so tell us a bit more about you, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Its all about the free speech, baby. And hence, people told us what THEY felt important to be known about them. A good and easy technique. We've chosen one guy, and have now broken the news to him that he has the smaller room, and the rent has gone up - eek - but he seems a sound guy, so lets hope he doesn't mind about the rent and room. He told us he plays 5-a-side footy, he likes going out, he has a car handy for shopping and booze trips to france (my uni is only 14 miles to the ferry crossing for those of you who don't know), and he likes indie music which i do too. He's a law student, as are 5 of my best mates, and his mum's a teacher as is mine. SO! Let's wait and see. So, in brief, the answer to the question was makes them ask and answer their own bleedin' questions!
