We'll just forget briefly about World War II, shall we? (I could talk about the Cold War, but that seems to have been more about macho posing of two world powers than actual warfare)

It was in the U.S's interest (to put it mildy) to enter WW2. But you are correct, Germany was not a small country. Iraq,in terms of real power,is a tiny country.

... sigh... it's ALL WAYS a macho, testosterone-laden "guy thing", this beast called war... It's about whose dick is bigger, whose torpedo is bigger and harder and faster. It's a GODDAMN guy thing and I don't approve!!! Leave me the fuck alone and go blow your nads off -- we could use a few good eunuchs these days... I mean, you guys INVENTED war! -- you invented the WEAPONS of war! -- you created THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT for conducting war! Fuck you! Sign me: On the side of "The Voice of Reason". Peace (dammit!)

Firm...but (on the whole) fair. But can I not blow my nads off, please?

*Thinks back to his favourite wars. English Civil War? Check. War Of The Roses? Check. However, remember that some wars are very much fighting for the good of mankind (I include World War II in this category...). What's that? The Crusades? Screw the crusades. If it were for the good of mankind....ah, you know what I mean.

well..... nads are comPLETEly overrated don't you think? Besides, eunuchs are/were held in high esteem -- you wouldn't want to guard the harem?? Think again guys... or, maybe we'll just put you all on an island and only fly you in to spackle things... Whaddaya say?

Instead, come join radical free-thinkers in a Central American community where spackling will be the least of your concerns and irradicating malaria infested mosquitoes a rather high priority. Eunuchs are welcome of course.

by-the-by... it just so happens that I am taking an ANTI-malarial drug called: Plaquenil (for Lupus) -- and I'm thinkin' in these bio-terror-logical times I'm killing a few birds with one stone (so to speak).

Nice work. (And not just the 'so to speak' part. Though I did enjoy that).

But the question is, is it having the effect its meant to have?

No, I don't mean "Have you got malaria?". I presume, and hope, that you haven't.
Re: Next Up. Coded Messages. by dot.dot.dash-dash-dash-dot.dot. on 2003-01-09 15:02:36  |  Reply to this
hey you... Plaquenil was used to treat malaria back in the 50's (??? - don't quote me on that please...) and was accidentally discovered to ALSO treat symptoms of lupus. The point is... there've been no new drugs for lupus specifically in decades! My personal experience is that: a) it has made my rashes worse at times b) hasn't really helped with pain and c) doesn't help lower the 'sed rate'. Sed rate = sedimentation rate of the blood when testing for presence of disease activity. My doc said for someone my age the normal range should be around 40... my sed rate = 123! Obviously this is VERY and only indicates disease activity (duh) and how agressive the lupus is, but, I ALREADY KNOW I HAVE LUPUS!!!! sheesh. I'm assuming I don't have malaria, however, I've got a built-in precaution! This is the good news???? -- I'm more worried about impending war and being nuked by people I don't know who hate me. Ciao!

OK. I may have taken that too far, but I'm (just a little) bored at the moment. I've done an essay, and a little piece for myself on the middle classes with European culture. Anyhow. I digress.

I don't know much about human biology, the closest I came was Wash! doing 1 lesson at A-Level before dropping out, but it seems 'difficult' to do anything about lupus. I won't dwell - I don't know what its like to be in your situation, nor do I have any experience of any hand at how lupus would affect your life...except for the good day/bad day thing. I could only wish you good days....if you're so worried about being nuked its the very least you deserve.

I remain sceptical about Iraq's capability to manufacture nuclear weapons...it all seems a bit 'pin the tail on the donkey' to me, and the head weapons inspector (discovered nothing as yet...though of course they may well discover "nothing") is checking where the pin landed.
So, no, I'm not worried...if I stopped to think, to consider, maybe I would be, but I don't want to do that, clearly. The only thing that's really suffered this last few years is my trust in people who should know better.

I'll carry this on elsewhere.
My mum asked me the other day if I would join the army...I don't want to kill people I don't know (against whom, for the vast majority I have nothing against) just because some people I don't trust tell me to. How could I do that?

If I offended anyone, sorry, it was a stream of thought thing. You got off lightly, believe me.

"Don't know much about history, don't know much biology..................." and almost nothing about malaria other than mosquitoes carry the little bugger. I was requested to bring "deet" repellent as it was best. Plaquenil??? Hmmmm.......thanks for the info. I'll be at the pharmacy Friday to pick up some "special" chemicals and hopefully I'll have added that one successfully. I am off now to Google 'Lupus' & 'Malaria'

Listen, I'm just sorry people suffer. I don't have reasonable solutions to suffering. I cannot stand the fact people suffer. I wish I could prevent people from suffering. I don't want my wonderful Corgis suffering or any animal in the kingdom suffering. I have witnessed the suffering and death of both man and animal and it terrifies and distresses me. Hospital visits, nursing home visits, animal shelter visits are not fun for me. My low tolerance for the observation of suffering makes me feel intolerably overpowered by death. Yet, against the grain of all this misery, I will make the most of my vacation to Costa Rica. I will not contemplate negativity on this trip. I have 3 weeks to escape and believe me I plan to escape without apology. I feel the worlds suffering, including those with lupus, can be dumped on me right now and all I'll give in return are smiles and laughter delivered straight to the heart of those in pain. Of course when I rerturn to the states with malaria, well, misery loves company.

I wound up not expressing myself clearly, to wit: My final thought was that dealing with lupus is small potatoes (every pun intended!) compared to the impending "Wars-R-Us" political machine currently being generated by god-knows-WHO for god-knows-WHAT-reason!!! (and that is something with which up, I will not put!)

Wearing black, and I mean every article of clothing xcept my boxer briefs(I find boxer briefs breathe easier than tightie whities and conform to the contours of my butt & torso providing a bit of support and little slippage when I'm doing "The Twist" unlike typical boxers which slip and turn and even strangulate blood flow during my unusual style of locomotion) were black on the night of my declaration against suffering. Obviously wearing black, in my case anyway, impacts my emotional state and I'm sure friends & neighbors would say it reflects it as well. However, even though I'm wearing a red shirt and blue pants at this very moment, I still find what was written satisfying to my humaneness and though it seems a bit redundant and somehow grandiose, I would not change a single word unless threatened with torture. Since wars cause suffering I must submit that I am against war. There are exceptions of course. There are always exceptions. I would like to amend my statement and include the line "I am against any action that a government may take to proactively and unprovokedly kill humans as this will add high levels of misery to those suffering the loss of the human beings killed. If these human beings are not killed but wounded, well, that increases their suffering and those who care for them especially if they have lost mobility due to missing limbs, spinal injury or just general nervous system signals of outstanding pain"

you are: the "Voice" inside my head. Thanks for the recommendation on the "Daily"... (are you also a Brit? -- like so many of the Taters here?) F.Y.I. And you should check out the Times of London (Jan. 15th, '003) and find John LeCarre's most excellent commentary entitled: The United States of America has Gone Mad -- it's long, but I feel it's onthemoney!

Hi d, I've just read the full text of John LeCarre's essay "The United States Of America Has Gone Mad" in The Times(UK). I was impressed by his writing,it was eloquent and precise and avoided all the usual cliches and platitudes spoken on the subject.P.S I am from the fair city of London,no one here calls themselves Brits, I think its an Amercian thing.

dear 'voice' inside my head... I just received another e-mail for peace from a friend -- to paraphrase one quote in the article from Mother Teresa found her saying that she would not join an "anti-war" demonstration, yet she would join a "pro-peace" rally. There is a difference, yes? Gotta go -- "London's calling..."

Hello... I don't get the spooky entry part -- I was just hearing that one lyric in my head as I was writing to you (in London) -- so I guess you ARE the 'voice' inside my head! Oh -- if the term 'Brit' is considered slang and/or derogatory in any way, all apologies. I guess what I'm wondering what the generic catch-all term is for ALL people from England? If one is NOT from London, then how is one called? Are you all Englanders then?? Thanks for the communiques....

Hi d, Iam sorry if I sounded a bit offish about the Brit thing,I don't mean to. You can call me anything you like. In fact Brit will do just do just great. When I said "spookily" I just meant it was a coincidence that you mentioned the lyric of a song I like, I didn't mean it to sound like an X-file moment. Communiques!....now your making fun of me.
