(1) My Dream.... by Kid. on 2002-03-09 17:18:43

I've been thinking a lot of late, not least in the shadow of Robbie Williams bringing out an album of covers, which songs I would do given the choice for an album to be unleashed on the world market. I've thought long and hard. Here we go...

1.Summer Wind You should know the Sinatra version, and I feel this song through and through. It'd be a great lead off.
2.It Ain't Over Til Its Over The Lenny Kravitz soon-to-be classic. I'd want similar instrumentation in the background throughout too.
3.Girl From The North Country Its just IS. No question.
4.It Ain't Over Til Its Over
5.You Spin Me Round The 80's Synth track. I just love it. I'd give a swing-beat feel, just to irate some people.
6.Hero The Enrique Iglesias recent single. I'd have my housemates in on backing vocals. You'd love it. It'd be No.1 as a single, for sure.
7.Let Love Speak Up Itself The little-loved Beautiful South track. Give it a jazz-y make over, a bit of life, make it my own.
8.This Old Heart Of Mine Bit of a shock? Trust me. I would be winner. Trust me.
9.Wendell Gee by R.E.M. It was cruelly ignored mid-80's, and a sparse acoustic re-working would take it to the status of cult classic it truly deserves.
10.Oliver Cromwell The Monty Python song. Just to alert people to his existence. It'd be a great track 10, just before building up to the end.
11.Saturday Sun+The Thoughts Of Mary Jane+Hazey Jane II All 3 Nick Drake, a medley of sorts. He was taken from us. I'd like to give something back. They're a beautiful triumverate.
12.Let's Do It Noel Coward. I owe it to myself to do it. Surely? A cigarette-holder, a smoking jacket, and my next-door neighbour on piano. It'd be great.
+HIDDEN TRACKGentle On My Mind No-one knows it. Whyever not? I don't know. It should be heralded as one of the best songs of all time.
+BONUS TRACKLizzie by a band called Almoe. It'd make sense. I'd dedicate it to a friend of mine. Just because it makes me think of her every time I hear it....

Well, there you go. I'll go away now, and you can mumble amongst yourselves. (Why no 'Let's Get Ready To Rhumble'? Why no 'Boom! Shake The Room'? Why no 'Bump'n'Grind?' Go on.... maybe even some wishes of your own....

Number 4 should read Mississippi by Bob Dylan. A lot of stress on lines such as 'I was raised in the country, I've been living in the town. I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down'. Sorry. Well, then. Debate.

Is that 'Hero' song the one with the video featuring Jennifer Love Hooters? Kid, that's a terrible song. I hope this was an ironic choice of some kind. Like the Nick Drake, though.

and very much reliant on the tune. I could never produce a bluegrass version, or a more popular swing one either. I do love it, but you've got to think hard about these things.

i think Bohemian Rhapsody (i'm sure i spelled that wrong) by Queen should be in there. i do think that's the greatest song ever, of all time. It's everything all in one and it's awesome. but that's just me.

Rac-hel, you did spell it right. Tater, do you remember seeing Queen live at Winterland around 1977? They did most of Bohemian Rhapsody on tape, though.
