parent: Well my pretties...
Re: Well my pretties... by Amelia on 2001-09-12 14:55:46
Writing from near the site of the event, I find it hard to say that the shut-downs were an overreaction. It has become clear to me that as soon as things began to hit the fan, people across the country began to activate their emergency plans. Now, the thing about emergencies is, you really can't tell what might emerge. And once you start the plan in motion, it is a very bad idea to change plans in midstream. It may appear at first blush to be too much, but based on early information, a lot of people had to make decisions in a hurry. I do believe that some lives were saved by conservative response plans. And here is my own response plan suggestion for all of YOU: Along with thousands of lives, millions of financial records may also have been destroyed, or rendered inaccessible for weeks to come. Keep your bills and cancelled checks in HARD COPY for the rest of this year at least. Even if you have never been to New York, your money has. Don't count on someone else's computer to sort you out.
