Obviously they're in final testing mode at Area 51, and the ultraplasmotron uses a colossal amount of power. Or, it could just be the usual suspects tweaking the system to make ever more money. But that's just silly.

Actually, I passed through the Las Vegas airport over Christmas vacation. There is a huge Area 51 themed gift shop there. It makes the whole alien thing just a little bit too cute, you know? Even I had a major "awwww" at the soft toy of the Gemini capsule where you stick your fingers in to make puppets of the two tiny astronauts. But can they sell enough of those to finance their fiendish experiments? Maybe they also get a split on the garish slot machines inside the smoking lounge.
