How about The Wizard Of Oz? To say it was what 1937? It's remarkably fresh still.....

1939, actually, but yes, I believe that film is one of the most enduring parts of our collective culture. The mere fact that it is now the root of so many cliches is testament to its total permeation of our consciousness. It is also one of the few cases where I think the film is a lot better than the book.
